One of our signature offerings during the fall and winter months is its Prime Rib Sunday dinner offered every Sunday from 4:30–9:00 PM. This offering is available at both the JBI Restaurant and Pub serve perfectly oven-roasted prime rib in sizes from 6 oz up to 16 oz.

This is not just a meal — it’s an event. Guests can expect tender, flavorful prime rib, accompanied by potatoes, seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, and a fresh salad or side soup, all served in our art-deco–inspired dining room and our warm and friendly pub. Available in November and December.

Pasta of the day

For November and December, visit the JBI Restaurant or JBI Pub for a fantastic pasta dinner special 7 nights a week, 4:30-9PM. Styles are house-made, change nightly, and prices vary. Ask your server for details.

This is no mall experience, it’s a beloved tradition that invites families, holiday travelers, and locals to step into a cozy, nostalgic moment at the Historical James Bay Inn. Victoria basketball fans, get ready! Team Canada will return to Victoria for W'Hoop It Up, a pre-Olympic training camp that includes an exhibition game against Portugal on June 26, 2024, at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Tickets, are available at www.selectyourtickets.com.

In June 2023, the team played in the Rim2Rim series against Japan in Victoria, setting the record for the largest home-game attendance with over 4,600 fans. This year, the goal is to break the record again with a sell-out crowd at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

Women's Sports are finally getting the attention they deserve, and basketball has led the way with recent record-shattering viewership during this year's NCAA March Madness tournament. Peaking at 24 million viewers during the final, it became the most-viewed college basketball game (men's or women's) of all time.

"Hosting Portugal in Victoria June 26th will be an important early test for our Senior Women's National Team as they continue building towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games," said Michael Bartlett, President & CEO of Canada Basketball. "On behalf of Canada Basketball and our team, I'd like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the Province of British Columbia, Destination Greater Victoria, the City of Victoria, and Rifflandia Entertainment Company for their ongoing support and help in organizing this series. The Hands of Time: Public Art Walking Tour

The Hands of Time is a 12-part series of bronze sculptures by British Columbia artist Crystal Przybille to commemorate the City of Victoria’s 150th anniversary of incorporation in 2012. You are invited to explore Victoria’s history and identity, which these sculptures depict. Trick is, can you find them all?

The Hands of Time consists of 12 bronze sculptures that depict life-size hands engaged in activities symbolic of Victoria’s past. The three-dimensional hands vary in culture, age and gender, and quietly convey eras and stories of Victoria.

The artwork is designed to playfully engage young and old, local and visitor, while kindling interest in Victoria’s history and identity. Each piece reveals a depth of meaning about Victoria, and beckons exploration and contemplation.

About the Process

Crystal Przybille was one of more than 80 artists who responded to the City of Victoria’s “Call to Artists” for the national, three-stage Victoria 150 public art competition. Following the City’s Art in Public Places policy, submissions were assessed on their artistic merit, expression of theme, feasibility, the use of public space, and sustainability.

About the Artwork

The Hands of Time depicts hands carving a canoe paddle, holding a railway spike, performing with a fan, carrying blankets, carrying books, holding binoculars, tying a rope to a mooring ring, panning for gold, raising a tea cup, holding a mirror, cupping Dogwood blossoms, and digging Camas bulbs.

Each sculpture is cast in bronze and finished with a dark patina. Some of the artworks such as “Holding a Mirror” incorporate smoothly polished stainless steel reflective pieces. To ensure authenticity, Crystal Przybille worked with First Nations artists in designing two of the art pieces. The paddle element in the “Carving the Canoe Paddle” sculpture was designed by Clarence Dick of the Songhees Nation, and the gathering basket element in the “Digging Camas Bulbs” artwork was designed by Carolyn Memnook of the T’souke Nation. The 12 bronze sculptures are located around Victoria’s Inner

Harbour, with one art piece at City Hall, The Hudson building, along the Songhees Walkway, and another at the top of Beacon Hill at Beacon Hill Park. The artworks can be found on buildings, lamp standards, rocks in landscaped areas, and on bedrock.

Hatley Castle a National Historic Site

History

Home to the Royal Roads University. Hatley Castle is an imposing Gothic-style stone mansion set amidst a 260-hectare estate, representing the culmination of an era that witnessed the construction of elaborate castle-like mansions by Victoria, British Columbia’s elite. It was built between 1908 and 1909 for James Dunsmuir, son of Robert Dunsmuir and former premier, lieutenant-governor and, at that time, the wealthiest man in British Columbia. Hatley Castle symbolizes the Dunsmuir family’s affluence and offers a glimpse of the elegant lifestyle that flourished in Victoria, British Columbia. Hatley Castle is also directly connected to the history of naval and military education in Canada because it served as the site of the Royal Roads Military College from 1940 to 1995.

The Grounds

These beautifully landscaped grounds consist of the stunning Hatley Gardens, featuring magnificent Japanese, Italian and Rose Gardens. The castle is surrounded by old growth forest with miles of walking trails that weave through out federally owned property. Great for walks and photography all year round. The landscape speaks to the two main phases of its history, eloquently testifying to the carefully planned and balanced Edwardian park of the early 1900s, while bearing the imprint of its years as a military college.

Hatley Castle's impressive exterior is matched only by the lavishness of the interior appointments; oak and rosewood paneled rooms, baronial fireplace, teak floors, and specially made lighting fixtures. Unlike other museums, Hatley Castle is a living building and is occupied by Royal Roads University administration staff, classes and special events. As such viewing the inside of the castle is only by guided tours. Daily guided tours resume May 18 to September 2 (subject to change)

Our knowledgeable guides will share the history of the Indigenous lands, Dunsmuir family, Royal Roads Military College and Royal Roads University.

Unlike other museums you may have visited, Hatley Castle is a "living building" and is occupied by Royal Roads University administration offices, classes and events. Our guided tour experience includes access to the first floor of Hatley Castle, the museum in the lower level and the surrounding gardens.

Access to the gardens is free and currently available from 10 a.m. to dusk. To protect the gardens, dogs are not permitted within the gated areas.
Like all areas of nature, please use designated walkways and respect eco sensitive areas. Pets are not permitted in the gated areas.

Sitting on the traditional lands of the Malahat Nation, The Malahat SkyWalk offers a completely unobstructed 360-degree views of the Saanich Inlet. The Skywalk is an impressive 250 meters (820 feet) above sea level. It has about 600 meters (1,969 feet) of a gentle spiral walkway that takes you to the ultimate viewing platform.

Start your day with gentle morning yoga at the top of the SkyWalk Tower. Soak up magnificent island views and breathe in fresh ocean air while moving through a morning practice.

During this class you will explore the opening poses of the Ashtanga Primary Series. This includes Sun Salutations and postures linked to Vinyasa (flowing movement) with a focus on breath and taxing point (dristhi). Each pose has its roots in Hatha Yoga and is ideal for those looking to develop clarity and strength, both mentally and physically. Modifications are offered in each pose. Don't Worry Beer Hoppy:

Don't worry beer hoppy, Victoria B.C is considered by many to be the hub of craft beer industry on Vancouver Island and in British Columbia for that matter. A visit to a few of Victoria's breweries should be on every beer lover's visit to our beloved capital city, Victoria, B.C. Our little city boasts everything from nano-breweries, larger scale producers and even award winners within the industry.

At the point of this post we are posting 3 must visit beer spots in Victoria, in no particular order. Keep checking back, as we will be adding to the list.

Driftwood Brewery

Driftwood Brewery is a leader within the BC craft beer industry.

Driftwood launched in July of 2008 with a pale ale and two Belgian beers. Soon after that in 2009, Driftwood Brewery created British Columbia's first wet hopped IPA, Sartori Harvest IPA. 2010 was a banner year after launching Fat Tug IPA on a year-round basis. Fat Tug soon became regarded by many as BC’s best IPA. Don't take our word for it. They won Gold as the American Style Pale Ale and cleaned up as being named Beer of the Year!

Herald Street Brew Works

Opening in December of 2020, The Herald Street Brew Works opened up its brewery with a goal to offer a unique tasting room experience that is both enjoyable and educational. In less than three years, The Herald Street Brew Works has produced nearly 125 different brews and the list continues to grow.

Whistle Buoy Brewing

Located in the lower courtyard of Market Square, beside Green Cuisine, The Whistle Buoy Brewing tap room is designed to be comfortable, inclusive and visually unique. This tiny brewery takes pride in making experimental small-batch beers, with high quality ingredients.

11 house made brews on tap including Pale Ale, IPA, Lager and sours.

While not a full menu, Whistle Buoy Brewing offers a great selection of snacks.
Pop-up oyster bar serving Vancouver Island fresh shucked oysters every Thursday - Saturday from mid-afternoon until they sell out! (usually around 7 pm)

Bookings start November 1st, 2023 (no early birds)
No phone calls. Santa starts taking bookings November 1st, 2023 confirmed via email at roy@jamesbayinn.com. Please include your name, phone number and number of people in your group.
No public drop ins.
Hotel guests staying overnight are encouraged to book ahead. However some drop ins will be available exclusively for overnight guests.
You must agree to have your photo shared on the James Bay Inn Social Networks. Instagram, Facebook and website. Permission slip will be emailed with your confirmation email.
Photos will be emailed to you withing 72 hours.
